The National Zoo has perhaps the best series of Asian animal exhibits that I have seen. In addition to the otters this complex includes giant pandas, red pandas, sloth bears, clouded leopards, and now Asian elephants with the opening of the ele exhibit that is connected to the Asian Trail complex. The zoo also has a very good tiger exhibit and interpretive tiger conservation trail. The orangutan exhibit with its O-Line system that allows the orangs to brachiate over visitors heads is a great innovation in allowing orangs to engage in natural orang behavior.
The Asian animal exhibits almost make up for the lack of African animals at the zoo (other than Grevy's zebras, lions, and gorillas). They sent their giraffes, African elephant, and hippos away to build the Asian animal exhibits.
I cant agree anymore. absolutely love this section in the zoo and cant wait for 2013 for the asian elephant exhibit to be finished. also btw hopefully the zoo get bhutan takins.
