Elephant Trails-Summer 2011

One of the yards in Elephant Trails. Photo taken on bridge across canyon with baby elephant.
I believe that this exhibit will be i the top 5 asian elephant exhibits when it is finished it will a huge barn with 3 outdoor yards and an excersise trail. The major downside is that it only has 3 elephants a young bull, a medium aged cow and an elderly cow. I hope that calgary zoo will send its elephants here when they get rid of them.

I think someone mentioned that Calgary's are going to Columbus.

Calgary Zoo's 4 Asian elephants (soon to be 5 early in 2013) are not going anywhere for a few years and there has NOT been any kind of decision as to whether they will end up in Columbus, Los Angeles, Oklahoma City, Washington D.C. or any other zoo. People keep speculating but it is a waste of time until Calgary makes an announcement years down the road.

You can see the two females in the left of the yard. In the canyon where the picture was taken above was the third elephant, a calf born in 2001 named Kandula. The two cows names are Shanthi and Ambika.
