It certainly did not take long for the green, nicely manicured lawn to become patchy and full of well-worn trails. It is not even summer and already this exhibit has lost its shine of being new and lush, although that is a minor criticism of what is a massive improvement on the old elephant enclosure.

It would definitely be nice for there to be a bit more green in the exhibit, but I agree that it is an incredible upgrade. It's decently spacious and a has a good amount to offer to its inhabitants and provides some breathtaking views for visitors. Certainly impressed when I went!
I should also note that this picture, along with the others of the National Zoo that I am uploading, were taken during the summer of last year (I believe in June). Though they don't show everything in the most up to date form, I would assume nothing incredibly substantial has changed (outside of the America Trail and further elephant construction).

You are correct. Only some minor changes have occurred like the addition of vultures, Sitatunga, and Red River Hogs to the Cheetah Conservation Center, the addition of Brush-Tailed Bettongs, a Sand Cat, and Malagasy Giant Rats to the Small Mammal House, and, from what I've heard, a minor renovation to the Small Mammal House. Also, Elephant Trails is now completely open and a new Sri Lankan Elephant has joined the herd.
