Going through old pictures I came across this one. is this where the zoo had plans for the takins? its at the very end of the elephant exhibit going across the bridge to the bird house. If the zoo isn't going to go with the takin idea, I would love to see some type of Asian hoofstock or even carnivore go in this area.

I remember seeing this area. This area is near the pandas, correct? Because the proposed takin exhibit will be near the pandas.

if the Zoo was smart, they could move their Przewalski's horses to this area.
Good idea, the current Przewalski's Horse exhibit is too small for my taste. Wonder if there's enough room to construct two exhibits, one for takin, one for the horses. Unfortunately, it's doubtful.

You know what, im wondering at this point in time if the zoo is thinking about just moving the horses over. Think about it. the zoo just came out and said they might want to bring in Hippos and if they did, they would have to knock down the small mammal building. The horses and peccary are right next to the small mammal building. IMO I don't see this space being vacant for too long. I mean this situation may take awhile to figure out what the zoo wants to do but in reality the zoo has a better chance of moving the horses over than bringing in takins.

it's a nice little valley area with many vantage points. on some visits, I had wished they extended the ele exhibit into this area. it has access towards the holding buildings. it's a great area for the horses.

I like the idea of the horses being in here! It would be pretty cool to see them in that exhibit at that vantage point but another viewing area would be needed. The exhibit would be perfect for them, too!

@jusko, the zoo isn't going to knock down the Small Mammal House. One, it's historical. Two, why get rid of dozens of species just to bring in one larger species? And three, it would simply cost way too much.

Thylo, Im just going by what a saw on that one article about it. I love national zoos small mammal house. Great lineup. But again, nowadays zoos don't seem to focus on small mammals as much as the bigger and popular ones just like HIPPOS...
