When was this photo taken? The exhibit, now fully complete and looking wonderful, is incredibly green considering that it must take the brunt of weight of many pachyderms. The National Zoo will have a full house in this habitat soon with the addition of Calgary Zoo's 3 females.

- This yard was amazingly green with 4 elephant's at the zoo. The exhibit has about 8 indoor areas so with the 3 more animals it will still have room. The zoos oldest elephant is in her 60's so she only has a few years left. I feel like the zoo should acquire a new bull after Calgary's elephants arrive. When I was there the females had full run of this yard, 2 other yards, the barn ans the community center.

During your visit was Kandula in the old Hippo yard?

- No that yard was empty. He was in the old elephant yard. If you look through the gallery you can see him in the pool. He was in the pool for half an hour. It was so cool. It was 90 degrees that day so maybe thats why both elephants were in the pools.

This exhibit is pretty much green. Sometimes you have some walking trails and depending on the season, there's an elimination of some grass. And yes, the old hippo yard is still being unused and growing weeds. It'd be interesting if they house an animal in there, but they would not be visible inside the barn.

I thought they were going to be renovating all of the other old pachyderm yards and making them green like this one? Or did they pretty much leave them the same as before the renovation?

- Only one yard was left as is. It holds the zoos bull much of the time. It may not be the largest of the yards or greenest but the animals seem to love it. It had the most enrichment and also has the largest/ deepest pool which was being used on my visit.
