National Zoo - Andean Bear Habitat

July 2008.
The zoo has a pair of old bear grottoes that can actually be joined to make one large exhibit, and the enclosures are much more spacious and naturalistic than many similar bear habitats. There is a lot of deadfall, shade and enrichment for the andean bear(s).

I think these grottoes used to be the Sloth Bear exhibits before the zoo built Asia Trail.

No, Im pretty sure the Sloth Bear were kept in the older bear grottos on the hillside below the gibbons and above the pinnipeds.

no these are the newer bear grotto's the old one's where the sloth bears used to live im pretty sure are unused now.
