Carnivore Cages at Decin, 28/08/12

After the monkey cages, the second least-attractive exhibits. Home to a single Amur Leopard and a single Malayan Sun Bear; the leopard at least is quite an elderly retirement animal.

Yikes! When were these cages built?

these look just like the cages you see in a lot of southeast Asian zoos- they even paint them the same shade of green!!

I don't know when they were built, but not recently! I suspect they won't survive the current occupants' eventual demise; though they could work as holding/separation for the neighbouring Grizzly exhibit if that were ever needed.

These only really beat out the monkey cages thanks to a layer of bark chippings and that green paint!
