This yard was originally built for and held Asian Elephants until the tragic death of a keeper. June 2005.

How big is the exhibit? It looks too small for elephants.


Yes that's true, this exhibit was built back in 1988. If you see the wooden wall in the back, the original exhibit was open behind that wall. But altogether I would say it was at least 1/3 of an acre, probably a little more.
 
The exhibit looks to me more like a quarter an acre. It has since been renovated and now holds a male malayan tapir. It looks a lot nicer now, and is much better themed, instead of a dusty yard. The male here, Arjun, was moved in with the female, in the female yard.
 
Unfortunately no, and it's been about a year since I have gone to Lowry Park. Don't no the next time I will be going.
