February 2011: A memorial in Asian Gardens to Char-Lee-Torre
Char-Lee Torre was killed by an Asian Elephant at the zoo in July 1993. The zoo sent away their Asian Elephants, and in 2004 when elephants were brought back to the collection, they switched to protected contactt. Char-Lee was a new keeper, and she will be remembered for her love of animals. Even in the hospital, she said "Don't blame the elephant."
