bighorn sheep mountain

January 27, 2014. Ingenious - just put a fence around the bottom of an existing mountain. You can see two bighorns on the ridgeline, frame by the curving branch.

It is pretty big, but I am terrible at judging sizes. Like when people talk about how many square feet a building is, that number is completely meaningless to me. However, it was taken with a 70mm lens on a full frame camera, which is very close to the human field of view (just very, very slightly telephoto). So this is more or less what it would look like if you were standing there.

The exhibit is brilliant in its simplicity and scope. The Phoenix Zoo has done exactly the same thing, except they have a boardwalk viewing platform and really nice (free) telescopes. I would say Phoenix is the number one bighorn exhibit and this is number two.
