What did you think of the jaguar exhibit?

Was there any indication of when the lion exhibit will be built?

I like the exhibit because it is very original. In a zoo sea of Mayan temples and generic grottoes, here is something no one has ever done.

No sign of progress on the lion exhibit unfortunately. I love this zoo because it is one of the best cat/predator zoos in the country and the lion exhibit will really put them over the top. They just got a new director so it will be interesting to see what he can do.

Its been a few years since this exhibit first opened has it? I agree with your comments AD, its rather nice to see Jaguars in a desert environment.

Jaguar silver mine in the Sierra Madre Occidental with buckboard, shaft entrances and headframe has been open at Stone Zoo since 2002. It is viewed through four windows. One of the windows looks like the buckboard crashed through it. Visitors can climb up and sit face-to-face with Jaguar. The viewing of the headframe is through mesh, but it doesn't hinder viewing. When either of the Jags is resting 25' up on the headframe, it is nice to see.

Wow, I had no idea another zoo had already done something like this. Good to know.

I was just going to post this.

Well here's more info anyway for anyone interested.

Yes, Nevin! On the left-hand side you can see the Jaguars on the buckboard with child. Underneath is the Jaguar exhibit. Last is the mine office with a family in front of the Gila Monster exhibit. When it first opened, it featured Llama, Greater Roadrunner, Coyote, Spectacled Owl, Cougar, misc. reptiles and tarantula, Cacomistle, Ornate Hawk-Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Bats, reptiles and Jaguar. Flamingo, Prairie dog, Rattlesnake and others never happened.
