Baltimore Zoo - Former ungulate exhibits

Former ungulate paddocks. There is a considerable walk from the main gate to the exhibit area or you can take the zoo train. However I would advise those interested in zoo history to walk so they can have a look at these historic ungulate exhibits; the train route and the pedestrian pathway are different.

This is a splendid series of photos. Most attractive enclosures. I have a couple of questions just off the top of my head, without any knowledge of these exhibits other than what can be observed in the photos. (1) Did the ungulates have access to a hard surface area to prevent excessive hoof growth ? (2) Did Baltimore manage to substitute the enclosures with something better (I think this would be difficult ) ? Of course , I am just referring to the outdoor area, and not stabling or stalls.

I can answer one.The animals in this section aren't in the zoo anymore unless they are behind the scenes.
