Large Jackass Penguin exhibit. I have photographed it from all sides to give an idea of its design. This group is supposed to be the largest in any zoo but someone would have to confirm that.

The water looks very shallow towards the land area but seems to become deeper coming away from the land area, towards the edge of the exhibit. Is this the case?

Animal's theory of an old Baboon Rock is one I could well accept, I always thought it was oddly large for such an old Penguin exhibit.

when ISIS is correct this is by far not the biggest group of jackass penguin in captivity. ISIS lists Baltimore as having 53 penguins, which is according to isis the biggest group in America. But Artis Amsterdam has about 130 jackass penguins and there are some other European zoos that keep more than 53 jackass penguins (for example Bristol).

I don't remember where I heard or read this but most likely it was for America or the United States. 53 penguins is indeed not that much if we're talking Jackass, Humboldt, Mangellan and other species like that.

"Rock Island" was built in 1960 and has held penguins since at least 1976, when it was proposed for it to house Gelada baboons.
