Baltimore Zoo - Turkey Vulture exhibit in Childrens Zoo

Turkey Vulture exhibit in Childrens Zoo. As I had only two and a half hour for the entire zoo (it also closes as early as 16.00) and found myself very fascinated by both African Journey and Polar Bear Watch, my time was limited to mere twenty minutes or so in a childrens zoo claimed by some to be the best in America.

Great photo, it's a shame you didn't have longer there.

Does anyone else think the bird in front looks like a black vulture?

I visited this zoo the day after Halloween and it was nice to see many families dressed up on visit. The aviaries in the maryland wilderness area were damaged since last winter´s heavy snow, so some of the netting has not been replaced and some species like the owls were still not on exhibit. No guidebook here either, but many helpfull docents were around. I think these are black vultures.

I seem to remember now that the one in front was Black Vulture but the one in the back certainly looks like Turkey Vulture; yet it was not labelled as such, only Black Vulture as I remember now.

Baltimore Zoo

Certainly looks like one of each. Can't quite make out whether these are flight-restricted or netted over.

Can't speak for these birds, but it is common for rescued raptors that have lost the ability to fly (and thus feed) to be exhibited in the U.S. So the flight restriction may not have been intentional.
