Toledo Zoo - Orangutan Exhibit

July 2008.
Not an overly large exhibit, but it is jam-packed with enrichment devices to keep the orangutans content.

So how would you rate this exhibit overall Snowleopard? (or anyone else)

Adittionally is there a roof on this exhibit, I can't quite see?:)

There is definitely a roof, and this is part of a larger complex called "Kingdom of the Apes". There are gorillas, chimpanzees and orangutans in what was originally the "Rare Mammal Building". It was redesigned and expanded, and the ape complex opened on May 27th, 1993. I got all of that information from the brilliant book "The Toledo Zoo's First 100 Years", which was released in 1999.

Anyway, I think that the indoor enclosures are all simply average, while the outdoor gorilla yard is disappointing as it is basically a large, grassy field. The orangs and chimps have better outdoor yards, as while they are smaller there is a ton of enrichment packed into the exhibits. Overall the Toledo Zoo has created decent ape environments, but nothing that is earth-shattering.
