@Zooplantman: that was my first thought...skateboarding! Tulsa is a very static zoo, with barely any changes in recent years, and I think that their now empty pinniped pool sums it up perfectly. This is the so-called "major project" at the zoo, but it was supposed to be completed in early 2009 and now it is due to open a full two years later in early 2011.
This is the old pool; it has now been demolished. Construction on a new much more naturalistic habitat is underway with completion expected in early 2012. The pair of California Sea Lions that resided here are on loan to the OKC Zoo until the new project is complete.

That's funny you should say that - and maybe the zoo managers read your comment - because on the day they had the groundbreaking for the new exhibit they opened the empty pool up for skateboarders for about an hour before the demolition crew began tearing it out!
Thanks for the new pictures. Loooks like it is going to be nice. I am going to try and get out there during the Christmas week if the weather cooperates.
It doesn't even look like it's ever been used! No dirt or paint in sight! This pool also looks very shallow and the surface looks very rough and scrape-y! (Talking about the old one by the way!)
