I read an article about the $5 million renovation of the North American Living Museum, and I'm excited because I was quite critical of the 4 buildings in my 2010 review. I found that the 1978 complex was long overdue for an overhaul, as there was peeling paint, chipped corners and all sorts of minor disrepair in all directions. Is Wild Life Trek going to actually have any brand-new exhibits? The Grizzly Bear grotto, which was appalling and once held Polar Bears, will hopefully be a nice renovation, but what else is included in the update?

Not a lot of info readily available. It is clear that it will no longer be exclusively North American species, but will continue to focus on four broad habitat types - "frozen places," deserts, forests, swamps. The Zoo states on their Facebook page that there will be "dozens" of new animals, but the only species I've definitely seen announced are the ones on the poster: Frilled lizard (Chlamydosaurus kingii), Siberian cranes (Leucogeranus leucogeranus), Naked mole rats (Heterocephalus glaber), and Sand cats (Felis margarita). I will go out there soon after it opens (unfortunately I'm out of town the week it actually opens) and will take a lot of photos and make a full report.
