Thanks for posting the map, and I will hopefully have around 900 different zoo maps once my latest package from England arrives. As a long-time collector of maps I am pleased to see Tulsa improve upon their cheap black-and-white photocopies that were handed out during my 2010 visit. The zoo is gradually getting better, although the map, Sea Lion Cove and Wild Life Trek are all marginal improvements based more on aesthetics than anything substantial. Even the upcoming rhino habitat will replace a perfectly fine African Savanna zone and the Lost Kingdom complex will hopefully be a significant addition to a once stagnant zoo.
The new map adds lots of colourful animals that were not present before, without becoming child-like or dismissive of the facility's true attractions. For example, it is nice to see tiny icons of a lion, tiger and snow leopard when in the past all there was on the map was some small printing declaring: "big cats".
Snowleopard, yes the map is a great improvement over the embarrassing outdated paper they were handing out. I agree the improvements so far have been largely aesthetic. I believe the most significant improvements have probably been back of house updates that were sorely needed. As we've said, it does at least signify progress. I agree the savanna was fine, but if the rhino exhibit is built according to the plans, it will be an expansion of that area and make it even better. I have very high hopes for The Lost Kingdom. It should be a major upgrade. I think by 2016 Tulsa will be worthy of another visit on one of your epic journeys!
