The Nature Center used to be called the Asheville Zoo in the 1940 and 1950. They featured a "menagerie" of lions, baboons, zebra, etc in the exhibit that is now the Center's main barn. Henrietta lived at the Nature Center as a holdover from the "old" days. She passed away in the early 1980s
