Giraffe Exhibit

Dec 2008. Enormous paddock for the herd.
I wouldn't go to the extreme of saying White Oak has the best giraffe, zebra etc. enclosures. They are standard fenced off enclosures. Yes, they do great conservation work and I give them credit for everything they do to help all the endangered species that reside there. Because it is not a zoo that would be quite unfair to say it is the best of its kind. Any zoo could fence off a section of land and call it the giraffe exhibit. How is that the best of its kind?

And most immersion exhibits have great exhibits for their animals. Congo Gorilla Forest immerses both guests and gorillas alike in an African Rain forest. It is by far the best gorilla exhibit and a maybe even the best exhibit in the world.

This does look nice and spacious, but the thing I don't like about white oak is that they take native landscape, put a fence around it, and toss in some animals. So where is the design, or innovation? (No offense Okapikpr)

The innovation is the fact that the animal's welfare and needs are taken into thought above all other design factors...something not many zoos do. White Oak also chooses to build natural enclosures, rather than the naturalistic enclosures found in many zoological facilities today. All factors of the animals' biology and health are taken into consideration when building new facilities.

Nothing, and thats sort of besides the point. My point was that I would rater see a giraffe like this in an exhibit that replicates its native home like at DAK, SDWAP, or the Phoenix Zoo, instead of the fenced in Florida landscape.

I really don't want to get into a page long argument on this. Your obviously going to have an ultra-biased view and will say anything bad about any zoo you can to prove that White Oak has the best of exhibits. I wasn't doubting White Oak is a great facility, I was just saying that this habitat is not as innovative and well-thought out as many of the other great zoo exhibits out there

BlackRhino, I don't think Okapikpr has ever said anything bad about other zoos to prove that White Oak is the best. Also, I don't think he has ever said that White Oak has the best exhibits.

We are arguing about two different things here. BlackRhino is arguing that it's not a very good exhibit, which is fine because it is NOT an exhibit. It is an enclosure. An exhibit is something set up for patrons to view and learn from. This is an enclosure set up to meet the needs of the animals. You are criticizing an orange because it's not "appley" enough. ;)

Sure, it would be ncie to see the giraffe in a multi million dollar savannah habitat, but they are doing splendid here and since no one is looking for immersion (As no one visist except for snowleopard, and i don't think he care's about immersion in this instant), this is a cost effective, animal friendly habitat

Also, I don't find SDWAP's giraffe habitat to be all that replicative of an african savanna and people are viewing that
