@DavidBrown, it was not a bad facility. The walk-through portion of the park was very "game-farmy" if you get my intent. The exhibits are not spectacular. However, the animals appear well cared for. This area of the park is free, so for area families that is kind of nice. Near the Lion enclosure (which is also viewed from the drive through), there is an overlook into the Asian and African sections were the animals there can viewed from a distance.
The drive through portion is average for that type of experience. Saying that, the Zebras, Bison, Wildebeest, Wild Turkeys, and Nilgai were displayed in habitat and numbers which were appealing.
The Sika and Fallow Deer can be fed in the Asian Section. I'm not a fan, but understand its appeal. The Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch does that very well in its park near San Antonio and Wildlife Safari cannot compete with that facility in that regard
The Hippos and Elephants could be exhibited better. The Bears, Lions, Tigers, and Cheetahs...I believe are wasted on the drive through. Although their exhibits were large and seemed fine (other than the Bears).
One Cheetah can be viewed in the walk through section and apparently Wildlife Safari is very successful with breeding the cats.
The facility is an AZA member and for maintaining large groups of hoofed mammals and providing an illusion of the wild, this park should commended and appreciated for what it is.
In my photo of the Giraffe and Wildebeest, Snowleopard commented that he thought the photo gave the impression the zoo might be better than it is...that is a pretty astute observation.
I would rate Wildlife Safari as a passable regional zoo. Worth a visit if your in the area.
