Is there any chance you remember what sort of small mammals are kept in here? It seems like this establishment has quite a few interesting species so there could be a few surprises in here too.

There are three (or four?) species of tamarin/marmoset. The most interesting is red handed tamarin, which I have not seen in any other US zoo. There are several species of mice and rats, perhaps a dozen. Things like clawed jird and Siberian hamster (I think), although also two or three domestic mice/rat varieties. Some type of fruit bat (not a giant type), fennec fox, two toed sloth, agouti, Prevost squirrel and a few others.

Here is the species list from August 2011:

Small Mammal Building – This structure contains a fantastic collection of animals, much like the entire zoo, but the exhibits are all average at best and some are clearly mediocre. Species list: Squirrel Monkey, Geoffrey’s Tamarin, Cotton-Top Tamarin, Red-Handed Tamarin, Golden Lion Tamarin, Meerkat, Colorado Chipmunk, Cliff Chipmunk, Chinchilla, Cotton Rat, Naked Mole Rat, Pack Rat, Hairless Rat, Natal Rat, Banner-Tailed Kangaroo Rat, Common Kangaroo Rat, Clawed Jird, Spiny Mouse, Common Mouse, Pocket Mouse, Pocket Gopher, Peruvian Guinea Pig, Degu, Agouti, Round-Tailed Ground Squirrel, Harris’ Antelope Ground Squirrel, Southern Flying Squirrel, Prevost’s Squirrel, Siberian Dwarf Hamster, Two-Toed Sloth, Bettong, Prehensile-Tailed Porcupine, African Hedgehog, Hedgehog Tenrec, Kinkajou, Fennec Fox, Neotropical Fruit Bat and Pygmy Slow Loris.

Thank you both for your answers. It sounds like a pretty solid small mammal house.
