You wouldn't happen to have a more complete list of birds in this exhibit would you?

I do not know the rest of the bird species, but perhaps if you are extremely curious to find out then I can write them down on my next visit to Seattle. The aviary is very tiny and a large number of zoo visitors do not enter it at all.

When I was there eleven years ago, I only remember there being southern masked weavers, cattle egrets and I think superb starlings. I do recall it being a really small aviary, but was impressed that it was a walkthrough none the less. On an off-topic note, is the atrium on the Tropical Rainforest still a free-flight aviary? When I was there it was devoted to Asian birds.

The atrium is still a free-flight aviary, and while quite small it is still impressive 17 years after its opening.

Is it still Asian birds, or has it been switched to South America to match the rest of the building?

I can appreciate the large ratites, the impressive birds of prey, elegant cranes, dimunitive hummingbirds and many other species of birds. And who does not like penguins? Having said all of that, I'm not nearly as much of a bird fan as I am of mammals and thus have no idea whether the birds in the atrium are of the South American or Asian variety. As long as it is not raining I will be taking the 5-hour roundtrip drive down to Seattle on Sunday, May 3rd and if you send me your questions then I'll be more than willing to answer them all. On May 2nd the brand-new, $6.5 million penguin exhibit opens to the public, and it will probably be a gong show on that Saturday with the crowds.

Species list for small African aviary: blue-belled roller, golden-breasted starling, southern masked weaver, speckled mousebird, violaceous turaco and helmeted guineafowl.
