What is that (hopefully temporary) fence in the distance, near the patas monkey termite mounds? Sorry to hear how infrequently the giraffes are put out onto the main savanna--I don't think that was the case "back in the day."
 
The fence is indeed for the patas monkeys, and two weeks ago that exhibit was actually off limits to the public. When I went to the zoo last weekend the monkeys were back on exhibit for visitors, but there were two signs stating that a new animal was being introduced to the enclosure. Hopefully the fence is temporary, as it slightly taints a marvellous African habitat.
