Look at that densely planted jungle! No wonder the jaguar is often extremely difficult to find, as there are 1,500 different species of plant in the exhibit.

ive noticed this in number of photos from zoos all around the world, what purpose do the black bird stickers on the windows serve?

seriously? and does it even work.... there isnt anything like that at Taronga (my local zoo and acutally the only one ive ever been too :P) and we never have any troubles with things flying into windows...

The stickers are shaped like birds of prey, so the birds will try to avoid going near them. It does seem to work.

@zooman: yes, the planting in the exhibit is absolutely incredible. But naturally it makes it very difficult to spot a cat.:)

@torie: those black "bird stickers" are on windows at many North American zoo enclosures, and nowhere is it more prominent than at the sloth bear exhibit at the National Zoo. There is a sign up there stating that in the first year there were so many bird deaths that they've had to practically cover 75% of the window with stickers.

Unfortunately, according to recent studies, those bird stickers do not seem to be really helpful when it comes to bird-glass collisions...:(
