Adjoining both the Patas house and paddock, I wonder if this is an old monkey cage?

Ravens seem to always get a raw deal in zoos.I can think of several dreadful examples off the top of my head.In fact, to restore my optimism, can any Zoochatter point out an example of a raven aviary a zoo could be proud of?

Yes, that Wildwood aviary is rather good and gets my seal of approval.I feel better now! Many thanks, Maguari.

The one in GaiaPark is also a fairly good raven aviary. We used to keep ravens in Copenhagen Zoo in a very good forest aviary a few years ago. Now they have been swapped for great grey owls instead.

It could be an old monkey cage, Ohrada held some common macaque species in the past. I can remember to see at least: aras, a juvenile white-tailed see eagle and golden eagles in this cage during the last 3-4 years. The previous raven cage was demolished to get space for the new african exhibits (see here - the highest cage in the row was theirs).

I´m yet to see a good raven aviary in my local zoos.

Thank you Toddy & Jana for some very interesting info. The Gaia aviary is wonderful - as usual, the simpler the better. An important advantage also is that this type of aviary is simple and economical to construct (probably why zoo architects don´t like them).
