All real trees with actual real leaves and branches. On sunny days the orangutans climb high into the branches and are thus almost at the height of zoo visitors on the surrounding boardwalk. As a bonus none of the trees have any hotwire on them and I still think that this is the best orangutan exhibit in North America.
