Lion Exhibit - Indoor Viewing Area

November 7th, 2009.
@Blackduiker: good point. The African wild dog viewing windows are directly to the right of this photo, as is a large informational board with conservation data on the predators of Africa, but this photo presents the image that the covered viewing windows are extremely bleak.

I was also referring to the floor and brick wall. It looks like they're covered with mud, as if there was a recent Seattle storm and the whole place got flooded. Does the flooring consist of dirt like some of the pathways I remember surrounding the savanna area?

Yes, there are dirt pathways around the bulk of the African Savanna, which I really value as it adds to the overall immersive experience. Inside this viewing area for the lions and African wild dogs there is dirt on the floor, but not as much of it as the outdoor trails.

I take your point outdoors, but inside this viewing shelter (with its very sturdy glass and windows frames) I don't think a paved floor would have detracted from the African-ness too much!

I agree Maguari. It looks like a slippery accident waiting to happen. And from the photograph; rather unsightly. The savanna dirt paths were nice. This however looks unappealing.

Actually, I believe the inside floor shown here is concrete stained and embossed to look like soil. But in this picture a little wet as it is the low point along the pathway
