Planning and design will begin for the sumatran tiger/sloth bear/sun bear area, which is the oldest part of the zoo. In the next few years those 3 grottoes will be demolished or extensively renovated, meaning that the weakest part of the zoo will become yet another immersive addition to the grounds. There are so many award-winning areas of this Seattle zoo so it is about time that the one and only truly outdated section is going to get bulldozed into history.
I sent a few emails to the Woodland Park Zoo's "webkeeper", and the response was that the 3 old grottoes featuring Asian bears and tigers will probably not be renovated or overhauled. Instead the entire area could be considerably altered and possibly demolished so that the animals will have brand new exhibit areas, and there may well be other Asian animals featured as part of some type of "Asian Forest" or "Asian Predator" zone.
