A lot of the zoo's recent development has been along the left-hand side of the map. In 2006 "Zoomazium" opened, which is a $10 million indoor play-area for children. Then in 2008 the flamingo pool was finished, and in 2009 the brilliant, $6.5 million Humboldt penguin exhibit opened to the public. In spring 2010 the west entry area will be completed for around $7.5 million, and the current West Entrance and North Entrance will both be permanently closed. The new entry will be the path directly above the penguins on the map. Instead of the current 3 entrances, the zoo will be left with the existing South Entrance and the brand-new West Entrance above the penguins.
May 1, 2010 is the scheduled opening date for the new, $7.5 million west entry. The path will be directly above 2009's Humboldt penguin exhibit, and meerkats will also be added to the collection on the same day. Those little critters will be located in the building that is the night-home for the Sumatran tigers and African wild dogs.
The next major development of the zoo is the oldest part of the entire grounds. Right in the centre of the map is a pathway that has 3 grottoes (Sumatran tiger/sloth bear/sun bear) and those will all be demolished in favour of modern, natural-looking animal environments.
