The rocky mountain goats can look down into the grizzly bear exhibit, and the goat mountain is also behind the river otter enclosure. There are zero visible barriers, hidden moats everywhere, and this award-winning "Northern Trail" area also includes species such as: Roosevelt elk, porcupine, artic wolf, arctic fox and bald eagle. The bears can be seen from at least 3 viewing areas above ground, plus inside of a cave/den, and underwater viewing windows.

Mountain goat and grizzly in the same scene - and with no apparent barriers - that is a GREAT photo of a great exhibit. I really do need to get back to Washington one of these days...

This would be something to see. Ever since Woodland Park sent me their guidebook on my request in the mid-1990s (I was then a young collector and they probably admired my guts) I have had the feeling that their zoo was something different. And judging from this photo it is!

@Baldur: check out the 2,400 photos of Woodland Park in the ZooChat gallery. There are countless great exhibits (jaguar, penguin, gorilla, orangutan, siamang gibbon, arctic wolf, grizzly bear, rocky mountain goat, etc) and in terms of exhibits it is easily one of the 5 best zoos in North America. There are only about 1,100 animals in the collection, but the quality with the enclosures is outstanding and thus the zoo has won numerous awards for its exhibitry. It is one of the main reasons why I shake my head at folks who still enjoy old-fashioned cages/grottoes and basic wire fences when it is not too difficult to hide barriers and create wonderful, modern exhibits.
