This near-legendary bear habitat opened in 1994, and Woodland Park Zoo's website claims that it was the first ever exhibit with underwater viewing of grizzly bears. With almost zero visible barriers separating bears from humans this award-winning section of the zoo also features an adjacent river otter exhibit and a rocky mountain goat/arctic fox enclosure directly behind the active otters. Everything was designed with landscape immersion in mind, a trait that has been ever present at WPZ since the mid-1970's.
