This grotto will be history within a few years as funding has almost been finalized for the zoo to radically overhaul the trio of grottoes that have been around for many decades. The Sumatran tiger/sloth bear/sun bear enclosures are the weakest section of the zoo, but the sun bear exhibit is actually by far the best of the three. However, in my past 20 visits to Woodland Park Zoo I've had a clear glimpse of a sun bear on maybe two occasions. Most times the bears are impossible to see, while there have been moments of seeing them in the dense undergrowth at the back of the habitat. This enclosure would be fantastic in many other zoos, and while it is obviously well-furnished it is amongst the oldest and most outdated zones of the zoo.
