African Savanna

March 27th, 2014.
Burchell's zebra, giraffe, Grant's gazelle, fringe-eared oryx, ostrich, helmeted guineafowl, black spur-winged goose

What species do they have out in the savanna these days?

Burchell's zebra, Grant's gazelle, fringe-eared oryx, ostrich, guineafowl and some waterfowl. Reticulated giraffes are let out onto the savanna in the warm summer months but 8 months of the year they are confined to their tiny chain-link fence yard and barn. Of note are the patas monkeys, as those primates have a separate exhibit but they can frequently be seen on their termite mound and tree trunks glancing in the direction that this photo was taken.
