I have always wondered about the moat in front of this exhibit, is it to keep the patas monkeys eye level to Zoo visitors? Could the Zoo not have built a "ha-ha moat"?

The zoo's patas monkeys have access to both the top section and the bottom section of the exhibit. The wonderful thing about this enclosure is that in the background it is fairly easy to see ostriches, giraffes, zebras and varous antelope wander the savanna while the 2-3 monkeys ramble around in the foreground. The only moat in the photo is actually one that is hidden and quite impossible to detect that separates the very back of the primate exhibit from the larger savanna field.
