Congo is unquestionably the best, but Atlanta's is a great facility. Congo was built with greater attention to detail, so moats, walls, hotwires, etc are much less evident, and the artificial trees and rocks much more realistically rendered. From a visitor's perspective, the drama, up close viewing, sightlines and interpretation at Congo are far more advanced. But for sheer size, complexity and flexibility (and as a result breeding and socialization) Atlanta's is still one of the very best anywhere
You sometimes seem to fail to see the nature of animals and the effect they have on the land, the constraints that come with managing a zoo...and you can be rather closed-minded. Sometimes, its worth to do a little bit of research before forming opinions and making statements. And there is much more to life than just appearances
@okapikpr: I have never been told I have a close-mind. All I am saying is that anytime I say the best exhibit for an animal is at San Diego or Bronx, you counter it with some southern zoo.
Name them. Atlanta provides FOUR spacious outdoor habitats for gorillas, more than any other zoo I know of: Bronx, Seattle, Los Angeles, Louisville, Lincoln Park, Dallas and DAK have two each; San Diego, Busch, Denver, Oklahoma, San Francisco, SDWAP, Riverbanks, Jacksonville etc. just one. From a "looks good" standpoint, Seattle, San Diego, Busch and DAK are all quite impressive. From an animal management perspective, I doubt even Bronx truly tops Atlanta.
