Is this 1961 Primate House (complete with potted plants and garage doors) going to be demolished now that funding has begun in earnest for a new Patas Monkey exhibit? If this building is bulldozed then what are the plans for the other primate inhabitants? Last question: Is this still the species list? Ring-Tailed Lemur, White-Throated Capuchin Monkey, Black Crested Mangabey, Patas Monkey and White-Handed Gibbon.
The demolition of this building is a slightly more long range plan. In the short term the gibbons and mangabeys will gain a bit more stretching room when the patas move out.
The ring-tailed lemurs have moved out and the building now houses Patas, Black Mangabey, White-handed Gibbon, and White-throated Capuchin.
This is a major project for such a small zoo....wow. Approximately half of the zoo (5 out of 12 acres) will be overhauled at a cost of $9 million and copying Louisville and Point Defiance the new African zone will feature a set of rotational exhibits.
