Hey Zebraduiker, I absolutely LOVE this constant stream of great shots from American zoos, but how about if you labelled the pictures? At least the ones that doesn´t speak for themselves, if you know what I mean?
What are we actually seeing in this interesting photo, for instance? Great rockwork, nice landscaping architecture... but then apart from that - what are we seeing?
Does this exhibit have sand anywhere in the exhibit? I ask because I've watched the giant otters at the LA Zoo for hours and most of the time they roll on the sand. They love it so much that sometimes they roll and play in the sand more than swim in their pool.
I also hope that the pair breeds. The LA zoo is also hoping to breed their new pair, but I think they are still too young.
They do have sand part in the exhibit. I could seethe same as you do at La in Phily and Jacksonvilel, it seems, giant otters love the sand. A big landpart is more important to that species than a big pool.
Where at the L.a Zoo is the giant otter exhibit, is it a new build exhibit or do they use an older exhibit for them ?
They are using the old Maned Wolf exhibit. The pool in that exhibit is small, but it seems like the otters don't care since they spend most of the day playing and chasing each other in the land part.
When the new Rain Forest of the Americas is finished, they will be have a new exhibit and will be the feature animal in that new area.
Is the rainforest of the Americas under construction or is it the next big project after the elephants ? What species they will keep in it ? I'm planning for 2012 my next trip to California.

Rain forest of the Americas will be the next big project, it will be finished by 2011, so you'll have a chance to see it. I'm not really sure about the species that will be exhibited, because nothing has been officially released about the exhibit.
