Sorry to hear that - the camera's one of the worst things to go when you're travelling - one of my old ones stopped working halfway round Antwerp Zoo the first time I went - right when I most needed it!
Yes It is very difficult to take pictures at Beijing Zoo, most exhibits are with glass and look like the glass is never cleaned.
I didn´t manage to get any good picture of the snub nosed monkeys due the bad condition of the glass walls and this was the case inside the nocturnal house with several interesting species.
The bird and primate houses are also too dark to take pictures without flash and I dont feel me confortable to take pictures of them with flash since estress is some thing constantly at this zoo and I dont would like to contribute with this.

Fortunally I managed to save the pictures of the 17 days China Trip before the Great Wall but for me the most important day was Beijing Zoo, but ok I get some pictures with my mobile and the visit will be alive in memory for long time.
