Sichuan takin Budorcas taxicolor tibetana) 2010-08

I don't see how this exhibit matches the animals habitat and raises awareness either. I mean look at the expression on his face. He looks sad doesn't he. How is this zoo making a conservation effort when it cant do simple things for the animal.

What is all this based on? One photo of an animal right in the corner of an exhibit? For all you know they could have a 2-acre artificial mountainside. I suspect they don't, but please stop making these judgments based on a single photo that plainly doesn't show the whole exhibit.

And he doesn't 'look sad', he looks like a takin!

Thank you Maguari! There are stairs and the takin can climb onto the roof. I will take some photos the next time.

I fully agree. Aside, to make assumptions on exhibits without the benefit of actually having visited the country and further to make sumations over the (welfare or any other ) status of animals in a country foreign to your own is somewhat rude.

Secondly, I am glad very very glad we have several very active Chinese forumsters who are willing to share their zoo photography with us.
And most importantly, we have expert and informed local opinion on zoo exhibits and animals.

This is all to our benefit and I am so thankful for that. :D

The only time I've seen takins was at Wuppertal. They were in an enormous enclosure with plenty of climbing and they had the same expression.

I saw one in the wild and he looked so sad I wanted to catch him and put him in a zoo.....
