@baboon, can you decipher the Chinese text on the board?
It seems to be a rather young - single - white rhino?

The word on the left sign is "No feed", and the words on the right sign is the introduction of the species "white rhino". I don't think it is a young one, because Chengdu Zoo is the first zoo having rhinos in southwest China, thus it may be not very young :)
 
I do think this rhino is from the last 10 or so years, since the first - flunked - import saw 2 captive-bred rhinos transferred intercontinental from US zoo to Chengdu (via Shanghai) due to prolonged transport / inadequate care (death by exhaustion from heat and dehydration).

I understand the seriousness of these admittedly avoidable deaths, however it buggers me that if a search is done internet for rhino Chengdu this is ONLY what comes up. Bummer!

On best authority it should be a male rhino … (without a mate).
