yes the enclosures for storks and cranes were not great (they were small but actually larger than they appear here due to perspective) but they presumably suited the birds alright because most pairs had young ones.

As with so many species, they will obviously breed under far from optimum housing conditions(in our view that is) and what constitutes good or poor housing is often very much an aethsetical judgement.
