From a conservation perspective it would be really applaudable if they would stick with just maintaining and breeding Bornean elephant.
There are several zoos few and far between with this subspecies and it is critical that a global conservation program would be in place both in and ex situ.

This zoo has 14 elephants in 2001, and they breed to at least 25 when I visited in 2011, most of them are Borneo pygmy elephants, and we can see new born calves every year. But it's certainly reported that there is hybrid between Borneo elephants and Indian elephant. I hope the zoo has clear pedigree records of every individual.
Is the one in front an adult or a juvenile? I suspect it is a juvenile (young) one, but if it is an adult then they really are unique. I have never seen one before.
