For those interested in palaeontology, the Palaeozoological Museum Of China is absolutely outstanding. The museum is on three floors, the lower one for dinosaurs including several fully-mounted skeletons (the displays are a mix of real fossils and casts) and fossil fish, the next floor for more dinosaurs and birds, and the third for mammals. Really fascinating fossils here, although unfortunately all the signage is in Chinese apart for the scientific names.

I'm not 100% certain, but I suspect I can see a non-felid skull next to the Homotherium skull - if my suspicion is correct, Barbourofelis.

which one are you looking at? To the direct left of the Homotherium crenatidens is the Chinese sabretooth Megantereon nihowanensis and left of that Panthera palaeosinensis (these are the two white skulls mounted on stems). To the far right at the top is another sabretooth Homotherium ultima. At bottom right is the cave hyaena Pachycrocuta sinensis.

On the right of the middle ledge is a very large skull but the sign is hidden behind the hyaena skull. I do somewhat recall there being a Barbourofelis in the case - or at least in the museum - but I'm not sure if there actually was or not.

Yeah, I was looking at the Megantereon nihowanensis skull - the flanges on the lower jaw, and the angle of the photograph, made it look a little less like a machairodont than skulls of the taxon usually do :)
