Some of the carnivore cages are so heavily fortified that it is difficult to even view the occupants! What is the point of that? I will say that looking beyond the many junky exhibits for dangerous beasts, there are actually some impressive hoofstock paddocks at this Indian zoo.
yes there are some very good hooved stock enclosures and also some other very good cages and aviaries for other animals. But unfortunately the bad cages at the zoo are very bad indeed.
Sadly so, carnivore exhibits in most Indian zoos are a complete let down
The word exhibit is actually a somewhat self-congratulatory euphemism to even come to express the real identity and character of these (dumps / pits / cages / …. and even these three fail to do so).
I would hope with the Masterplan in place at this zoo ASZ would as a priority completely re-design the entire Carnivore section and look at current developments in new Carnivore exhibitry in Americas, Europe and Australia for inspiration how to design good quality, animal-friendly, immersive and interpretative Carnivora exhibits.
