Chlidonias, what is your favored hypothesis for why there are more species of gliding animals in the forests of these islands than anywhere else in the world?
I just go with the usual one, where the type of forest (big tall trees, not a lot of anything inbetween) makes gliding more economical than brachiating or jumping. I've never been to Africa or South America so I have no direct comparisons to make for the forest types unfortunately.
