at the Bukittinggi zoo, Sumatra. There were pig-tailed macaques in a cage behind it, but I have no idea what this one is. It had a crown of fur like a bonnet macaque but it ceratinly doesn't look like one of those to me. Any ideas?

Something that occurred to me last night was that the Mentawai Islands are right off the west coast of Sumatra, so a macaque from there would be more likely to be found at the Bukittinggi zoo than one from Sulawesi. The salient feature of the zoo macaque in the photo, that I completely forgot, was that the tail was short not long. Its possible that it had once had a long tail and lost it through disease or accident (the rear part of this monkey was completely bald and scabby), but I did some internet picture searches and I think it’s actually a Siberut Island macaque Macaca siberu (which was formerly included in the same species as the pig-tailed macaque, so short tail).
There’s a picture on this Mentawai site that matches it closely, although the one at the Bukittinggi zoo is obviously very overweight: and Mentawai for all: Mentawai
Chlidonias, will ask a friend who is a primatologist shortly. He may have access to more concrete information on Mentawai primates. Watch this space ...
there was some additional discussion at the time here - http://www.zoochat.com/238/bukittinggi-zoo-west-sumatra-112059/ - where I made a suggestion of Pagai Island macaque, but I really don't know. It does look like one (I think at that time there were no photos I could find on the internet).
