Chlidonias

silvered langurs (Trachypithecus cristatus)

yes, the green corrugated plastic on top recreates the effect of forest canopy, and the surrounding foliage is suggestive of their natural habitat. All in all, a very appealing exhibit.

(There is also behavioural enrichment in the form of visitors poking them and shaking the cage)

Nice to see they have a good solid floor in the form of a plank of wood at the front! Such a sad photo!

sadly this is not even the worst of the primate cages at the Medan Zoo

I visited in October 2009. On the http://www.zoochat.com/238/medan-zoo-north-sumatra-112525/ thread there's a link to another site with photos of the primates in these same cages from a year previously. Sadly, these cages are their permanent homes. The following link to that same site shows that at least some of the primates remain in these cages (there is a photo from this year of the siamang, still in its tiny cell, with flash new informational signage!): North Sumatra Animal Welfare

This link however, from 2010, shows the Japanese macaques have a much larger cage than previously: http://northsumatraanimalwelfare.bl...-max=2011-01-01T00:00:00-08:00&max-results=31
