Jaguar enclosure

one of the disappointing aspects of the zoo
Do you know what era this cage is from? Was it built many decades ago?

The whole"Zoo"is looking that way..Japan has only two Zoos providing western standards in animal welfare-Zoorasia and Tama-Zoo, the rest are more or less "Animal jails"like this one.

These big-cat cages were built in 1937, although they have undergone slight renovations.

A quarter-century renovation project is under way at the zoo, and the cats will be moved to their respective zones after their new exhibits are completed. The jaguars will be moved to the enclosure currently being constructed in the “America zone”.

That has often been my perspective, as I have had several acquaintances travel throughout Japan and complain about the awful quality of the nation's zoos. The only positive note is that Japan has a much better track record with aquariums.

That's correct-Japan and the Usa are the worlds countries for public aquariums.
