Have been for a short time quite populair in ( at least ) Dutch aquariums ( privat ) in the 1980-ties and were even bred succesfully - using European freshwater mussels. Don't know if they are still kept somewhere in the Netherlands ( UK, Europe, America ? ).

I've never seen them. I have been to most of the major aquariums (not Shedd, however) and honestly hardly see any species from Japan or nearby waters, excluding a few species, mainly Japanese Spider Crabs.
